Ahlain Amman

Amman City Center
Ahlan wa sahlan to Amman! This ancient city has been inhabited by several great civilizations throught out history and has called several names in the past like Rabbath Ammom, Philadelphia yes the original Chilly Philly, Ammon and finally decided to call itself Amman.

Amman city has several historical sights which make it a top destination for travellers and adventurers alike.

Some not to miss Historical Places to Visit in Amman down town.

Roman Theatre ( Muddraj Al Romani)

Built by the Roman King Antonium Pius in 138 - 168 CE this  is an amazing place to start your city tour. Where would one find an over 2000 year old ancient theatre in the middle of an Arabian bustling downtown?

Citadel ( Jabal Al Qal'a)

The citadel on one of the higer hills in Amman is one of the most unique archaeological sites in the world due to sheer amount of history located on the site. The place has ancient Neolithic tools, Bronze and Iron Age caves, burial sites, one of the only surviving roman temples of Hercules, Byzantine Churches, Uymmaid Mosques and grave sites from the early 1920's.

Do not forget to visit the museum on site the Citadel, less known fact - It houses some of the pages from the Dead Sea Scrolls!

Right acorss from the Temple is the beautiful Uymmaid Palace with the restored dome.

The replicated Dome of the Palace.

Odd find - Now if you walk acorss the palace courtyard you will be looking at the one of the two largest flag poles in the world! The second one belongs to Jordan as well and is in the port city of Aqaba in the South.

Once you soak up the sun, dust and the downtown bustle stop by the popular local delight / pesant food Felafel at the oldest restaurant in Amman called Hashem. The restaurant is actually the alley in between two buildings and they make some of the best felafel I have ever tasted!

Any one downtown will give you directions to the restaurant and it is a exciting walk from the theatre through the downtown shops.

Hope you enjoy your trip in Amman as much as I did and as they say in Jordan - Shukran and Ahlan ala Urdun!
